And Now a $35 (Rs.1500) Laptop - Made in India

India's answer to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) $99 Laptop.

The Government of India has come up with an extremely intelligent proposition of $ 35 laptops. It would be a typical touch screen, tablet computer. It would do the basics like storing data and would be web enabled.

The tablet is aimed at students, which it hopes to bring into production by 2011. If the government can find a manufacturer, the Linux operating system-based computer would be the latest in a string of "world's cheapest" innovations to hit the market out of India.

The tablet doesn't have a hard disk, but instead uses a memory card, much like a mobile phone. Basic features, including a built-in key board, a 2 GB RAM memory, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB ports and is powered by a 2-watt system for use in power deficit areas. Other features like built in word processor, video conferencing capabilities, and a Web browser provide for complete entertainment and use.The seven and nine inch Linux-based touchscreen gadget can also be run on solar power, besides the battery operated system.

The tablet design cuts hardware costs, and the use of open-source software also adds to savings. Government of India plans to subsidize the cost of the tablet for its students, bringing the purchase price down to around $20.

The project is part of an ambitious education technology initiative, which also aims to bring broadband connectivity to India's 25,000 colleges and 504 universities and make study materials available online.

We are living in exponential times..

Why?? You ask..Here's the reason:

1. There are 31 billions searches on Google every month...
..In 2006 this number was 2.7 billions.

2. The first commercial text message was sent in December of 1992..
..Today the number of text messages sent and received everyday exceeds the total population of the planet.

3. Years it took to reach a market audience of 50 million..
..Radio 38 years
..TV 13 years
..Internet 4 years

..Ipod 3 years

..Facebook 2 years

4. Number of internet devices in
..1984 1,000
..1992 1,000,000
..2008 1,000,000,000

So, don't you agree, time is changing exponentially!!
